Reading: Hebrews 2:5-2:18
This Lent, as we spend time praying and reflecting on Jesus and his sacrifice, let’s take some time to get to know him personally. He’s far closer and cares about us far more than we often realise.
Jesus is your brother
The author of Hebrews tells us that Jesus is our brother (2:11). Most of us have our own understanding and experience of siblings but Jesus is the perfect sibling, He’s always there to listen and support you. He cares for you and will always be there to stand up for you because He’s family.
He frees you from death
Jesus experienced death for all of us, we no longer have to live in fear of death and the separation from God that it brings (2:9,15). Jesus took that pain on Himself because of His love for you, He bought you your freedom.
He understands your struggle
He was made fully human, suffered and was tempted (2:17-18). He knows what it’s like to want to do what you shouldn’t and He understands the suffering you’re experiencing right now. You’re not alone, He is with you and He loves you, He will help you through this. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 NIV
Jesus is more than a distant saviour, he’s family, he loves you and he understands what you’re going through. Come on a journey this lent, let’s get to know him better.
